The UVD Robot is an autonomous mobile robot that uses UV-C (ultraviolet C) light to inactivate microorganisms on environmental surfaces. Built by Blue Ocean Robotics, the UVD Robot operates by sensing its environment and moving independently of human interaction, emitting UV-C light that is able to disinfect indoor surfaces, from multiple positions, to reach different surfaces and reduce shadowed areas.

UVD Robots add a consistent, repeatable disinfection step to an existing cleaning and disinfection routine, without chemical disinfectants. They are used to supplement daily and terminal cleaning in environments with high microorganism bioburden, such as laboratories, airports and schools, with minimal disruption to current cleaning and disinfection procedures.

In its autonomous mode, the UVD Robot can disinfect a 25 m² (269 sq ft) room in approximately 10 minutes or less. Actual cycle time depends on room size, layout and the number of positions the robot stops at during the run.

UV-C light disinfects by damaging the genetic material of microorganisms. At germicidal wavelengths (around 254 nm), UV-C is absorbed into the microorganism and alters the genetic makeup (DNA/RNA) inhibiting their replication and leading to eventual cell death. Only surfaces the light reaches directly are affected.

The UVD Robot will disinfect any hard, non-porous area that the UV-C light hits. This includes floors, walls, and other stationary objects.

Yes. The UVD Robot is certified by TÜV Rheinland, a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) accredited by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Manufacturer Blue Ocean Robotics holds  EPA registration and also multiple ISO certifications: ISO 14001:2015, ISO 9001:2015, EN ISO 13485:2016, ISO/IEC 27001:2022.
