General Hospital “Dr Ivo Pedisic” Sisak

For a long time, UVD Robots have been a frontline fighter in the battle against COVID-19 at hospitals across the globe. One of these hospitals, the General Hospital “Dr Ivo Pedisic”, in Sisak, Croatia, has experienced great results with the robot’s effectiveness, showing no existing organisms after disinfection.

The UVD Robot was deployed for 5 months in 6 of the hospital's 15 operating theatres.

About The Study

The study was conducted at General Hospital “Dr. Ivo Pedišić” in Sisak, Croatia. The hospital treats between 1,000 and 1,200 patients daily1 and acquired a UVD Robot for environmental disinfection in March 2020. When the SAR-CoV2 (COVID-19) pandemic emerged, the hospital started utilizing the robot for daily routine disinfections of their COVID-19 department.

The effect of the UVD Robot could be seen when COVID-19 infections across the hospital were compared. For example, there are a total of 1,100 staff members at the hospital. Only one (1) healthcare worker tested positive for COVID-19 with 48 admitted COVID-patients, 9 of whom were in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). In contrast, 37 staff members tested COVID-19 positive in the departments where the UVD Robot was not deployed. This data represents infection statuses as of mid-November 2020.2

Procedure and results

The objective was to evaluate the UVD Robot's environmental efficacy.

The hospital carried out swab samples for non-live environments (surfaces) at different times during the following procedures.

After manual cleaning and before disinfection with the UVD Robot, 13 of the samples reacted positively to five (5) different pathogens (incl. staphylococcus epidermidis, micrococcus luteus (phylum: actinobacteria), staphylococcus aureus, pseudomonas aeruginosa, and aspergillus species).

In comparison, after manual cleaning and after disinfection with the UVD Robot, the 13 swabs samples, taken at the same locations, were all with zero (0) species.

The hospital staff took the swabs independently from UVD Robots and performed the efficacy monitoring to evaluate the germicidal effect of the UVD Robot. The samples were analyzed with VITEK® 2, a fully automated system that performs bacterial identification and antibiotic susceptibility testing.
